It was the first day of the new year at Shibusen. Students looking for their classes crowded the halls in various degrees of disorientation. Helpful teachers lined the walls, guiding the new meisters and weapons to their proper places. Most of the students found their way to class, but a few were still wandering the halls.
It was through this trickle of people that Laura Bonaparte raced, shoving fellow students out of her way. (Oh man, I'm gonna be so late!) She finally reached the room she was looking for and yanked the doors open.
"Sorry I'm late!" she called to the teacher. "Abby-" she pointed to a girl sitting a couple rows up- "and I were riding our bikes to school, and hers broke, and we were already gonna be late, so I gave her mine and ran here!" Having said this all in one breath, she bent over and gasped for air.
The teacher sighed. "Fine, just don't let it happen again." Laura smiled gratefully. She walked over to the empty seat next to Abby and plopped down. "What'd I miss?" she whispered.

Abby Callahan smiled and shook her head as Laura burst through the classroom doors. She had thought that Laura would have passed out on the long run from the apartment to Shibusen. (She really shouldn't have let me take that bike. Now she'll get in trouble... Oh good, she's fine.)
As Laura plopped down beside her, Abby whispered "We haven't done anything yet. Today we're just going to get to know our classmates." "Alright, so as I was saying before I was interrupted-" Abby saw Laura slump down in her seat- "I'm going to split you up into groups by row. Now, be nice and make a good first impression!" (This should be fun!) Abby thought. (It'll be good to get to know people, especially since Laura and I are new here.) She turned to the student beside her. "Hi, my name's Abby. What's yours?"

Karma Evans looked up and down the row. (Please tell me she wasn't talking to me...) The blonde continued to stare at her. (Gah, should've gotten coffee this morning... I'm not up for chatter...)
She looked to Abby for a moment. "Karma," she answered, returning her chin to its proper place in her hand. She could then feel Sayuri glaring daggers at her. Karma hoped starting up a conversation with Abby would get her meister off her back. Sighing, she turned back to the blonde and asked, "So, weapon or meister?" (This is going to be a long day... I really should've gotten coffee...)

Abby smiled, trying to be friendly. "I'm a weapon. An axe, really. Laura-" she nodded toward the girl leaning over her shoulder- "is my meister. We just moved here from the East Coast, so we don't really know our way around. We don't know anyone, either, so we don't have anyone to show us around. That's why we got kinda lost this morning. I'm not so good with directions..."
Abby looked toward the girl sitting beside Karma. "So is she your meister?"

Garu sat in the top left corner of the room. It being the first day of school he was very nervous. What if one of the many meisters in the school finds him out? It was for this reason that he decided it would be most prudent to keep a low profile. After all, he couldn't very well help his cause being imprisoned, or worse yet dead.
When the load commotion could be heard from the front of the class. The witch let out a soft grunt/growl of irritation. He wasn't one for loud noises. Which was exactly what was coming from the front of the room. Needing to keep his cover he just kept silent and hid behind a book. Besides, he had better things to do, like find a partner he could resonate with and trust.

"Yep! That's me!"
Sayuri smiled brightly, suddenly, standing up by pushing down on Karma's shoulders.
"Welcome to Shibusen! I'm Sayuri!" Keeping her hands on the scythe, but leaning so her head was right next to her partner's, she continued, "Karma here is my scythe! It's so awesome to meet you guys!" She spontaneously giggled. "It's gonna be a great year!"
Sayuri released her partner from her grip, looking around the room. She spotted a boy with white hair hiding behind a book in the back of the classroom.
He looks like he needs to be cheered up! she thought, and immediately bounced over to him, dragging Karma behind her almost subconsciously.
"Hiya!" she said to the guy. "I'm Sayuri! This is Karma! Who are you?"

Laura leaned over Abby's shoulder, waiting for a good time to interject into the conversation. (Karma, huh? That's a cool name. Although, she seems kinda like a wet blanket. That Sayuri seems fun, though! I wonder if I can use them for my plans...)
Seeing that someone needed cheering up, and not wanting to sit awkwardly by, she grabbed Abby's arm and dragged her along after Sayuri. "And I'm Laura and this is Abby!" She plunked down onto the desk in front of the poor kid and smiled her biggest smile.

Abby smiled at Sayuri's exuberance. (Well, the people here seem nice. Sayuri seems fun, and I bet Karma will be too once we get to know her! I wish Laura had gotten to make a better first impression, though.)
Suddenly she found herself being yanked out of her seat and dragged behind her meister. "Laura!" she hissed angrily. "We can't just go barging in on people! He's busy reading!" But her argument fell on deaf ears. She sighed and followed behind Laura. After Laura's brusque introduction, she smiled and said "I-it's nice to meet you."

Karma watched as Laura and Abby joined Sayuri and herself. She rolled her eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose in irritation. (The number of annoying people is multiplying... must refrain from Karma Chopping... God, I hate big groups of people...)
Karma looked to the boy hiding behind the book. (If this guy is anything like me, then he must really hate being here right now.) "Hey, Sayuri, leave the poor guy alone, all right? Give him his personal space, jeez!" she said, grabbing her meister's shoulder. Not that she really cared about whether Sayuri and the other girls were bothering the boy or not. She just wanted to stop feeling claustrophobic... and hopefully go back to reading her horror manga in peace.

Garu hid from the sudden burst of attention to him. He forgot the first day was always like this. It was always "Hi, what is your name, your favorite color, mothers maiden name." He desided the less he talked the better to shoo these people away. "Garu..." he said. Crap, he forgot to think of a fake last name. How could he have forgotten that? But being quick on his feet he said "Hemming, a meister." Quickly his mind went into encyclopedia mode HEMMING: Scandinavian name derived from Old Norse hamr, meaning "shape." The name may have originated as a byname for a "shape-shifter" or "werewolf." He hoped they wouldn't catch that.
"It's okay" he said with a small smile. With a nod of thank to Karma he dove back into his book. Luckily this was before his nose started bleeding like a faucet was turned on. At least some people had enough common sense in this place.

"Hemming?" Sayuri thought for a moment, "Where have I heard that before...?" Her mind wandered for a short second, then the metaphorical light bulb above her head lit. "No way!" she exclaim, leaning onto Garu's desk so their eyes met. "Are you related to Mark Hemming?! I can't believe you're related to such a great actor!! That's so amazing!!"
She suddenly hugged Karma, squeeing, "I've met someone who's related to someone who's famous! This is, like, awesome!!" Finally, she noticed the blood gushing from Garu's nose. "Eek!" she squealed. "Oh gosh, Karma! What happened?! Karma, go get a tissue!! He's bleeding!!" She shoved her partner towards the front of the class.

Laura watched Sayuri's spaz attack in awe. (Wow... She's more spaztastic than me. I bow to her glory.) "Umm, I think he'll be okay. It's just a nose bleed, chill." (Still, he has to be pretty pervy for that amount of bloodloss. Her boobs aren't that big...)
"And who's Mark Hemming? Never heard of him." Bored already with the unresponsive Garu, Laura focused her attention on the much more effusive Sayuri. She laughed casually. "Sorry, I don't know many actors. I'm not that great with popular culture nowadays. Abby here's even worse, though. She doesn't watch any movies made after the fifties." Laura rolled her eyes and laughed again.

"Oh, Sayuri, it's okay. I have a handkerchief." Abby pulled out a clean linen square from her pocket and handed it to Garu. "Here." She smiled in a friendly way. She could sense that Garu wanted to be left alone, but decided that it'd be best for him to come out of his shell. (After all, I'm like that sometimes, but it's usually better to be outgoing.)
"So, what are you reading? It looks interesting." (I bet he doesn't mean to be rude, he probably just doesn't like a lot of commotion. After all, it took me a while to get used to Laura, so I can forgive him for that. Besides, he looks like he's here by himself. He doesn't seem to have a weapon yet.)

Karma's eye twitched in annoyance. "Sayuri... you are the daughter of the Death Scythe and meister team, Black Star and Tsubaki, and practically related to my parents, another Death Scythe and meister team, Maka and..." She stopped. The man she'd nearly said was officially dead to her, no way was she going to even bring him up. "You know plenty of famous people," she growled. "Now... get... off... me..."
After pushing Sayuri away from her, Karma looked to Garu's nosebleed in disgust. (And I tried to help this guy? Why are all men the same, huh? Show them a well endowed girl and they nearly die of bloodloss…) She turned her attention to Laura and Abby. “I don’t know him either,” she said to Laura with a shrug. While still stuck in the group of people, she might as well join the conversation for a little while before ditching them. Common courtesy and all. “He’s probably in the girliest movies known to man. That’s all Sayuri watches…” Karma nodded her thanks to Abby for taking care of Garu’s nosebleed for her and walked back to her desk.
Opening up the pages of her manga, Karma remembered that the “wolf” had infiltrated the group of friends. They were supposed to decide who the wolf was and kill him before he killed all of them. The other characters had believed Eiji was the wolf, the liar. She read through the next few pages fast, out of anticipation to find out who the real wolf was… and so she could get more pages read before anyone interrupted her again.

Garu grunted in thanks as he wiped his nose. "I apologize if I seem a bit...secluded and rude. I'm not use to this attention." He huffed as his cheeks got red and he got defensive. He was more than a little bit embarrassed at his extreme reaction, that is no way for a gentleman to act. After whipping his nose he offered the handkerchief back. "Um here." Curse his social awkwardness.
Picking his book back up he simply said "The Crucible by Arthur Miller." he said simply with a shrug "And no relation...that I know of at least." he leaned back in his chair and put his booted feet up. Truthfully he'd rather be barefoot. But he couldn't really do anything about it right now. So he would take a deep breath and bare it, just like all these people. Why did he of all people have to be the center of attention?
